The First 5 with Taiyamo Denku

denku2

This week Taiyamo Denku, a member of the Uncommom Records roster, participated in our weekly column. Denku is one-third of the hip-hop group W.A.S.T.E.L.A.N.D.S. that has an album scheduled to drop in January of 2010. Check out his answers to our First 5.

1. Tell us something nobody knows about you?
Outside of music and hip-hop, I bust my ass doing slave work at a factory surrounded by ex-cons and uneducated peeps. And I have a college degree. Damn this economy…

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
I want people to know that real hip-hop does still exist in some of us. All rap music is not broken down in to “pop-rap” and club hits. I still have pride and push to bring knowledge to the people through my lyrics.

3. What is one of your biggest regrets?
Throwing extra, hard earned money at emcees I really wanted to collaborate with that I had confidence would drop sick verses only for them to get outshined by me on the track and drop mediocre or half-assed ish. What is going on…

4. What is your greatest memory in hip-hop?
My greatest memory, personally, would have to be my first show in NYC. It was crazy because it was 2008 and all of a sudden I felt at home and that people actually felt what I was saying in my verses.

5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Still making music and hoping to be more and more successful at it, if not a breakthrough into mainstream at least underground success. Music and hip-hop is my passion and my love, why wouldn’t I keep doing it?
