Thank you all for the support
I just wanted to take a quick moment to kick off this blog with a thank-you entry. Everyone who has done anything to help us grow over our short existence, seriously, thank you for your support.
All of the artists and readers who have helped us, re-tweeted our posts, shared our pages on Facebook, or done anything else to help us spread hip-hop, it’s greatly appreciated. As we continue to grow, we will stay true to our commitment to be a safe-haven for those who are students of true hip-hop culture.
I had a chance to chat with some of our writers the other day and we talked about missions, goals and visions for the site and we all agreed upon one central ideal: Reclaiming hip-hop.
While I’m not one to buy into the “hip-hop is dead,” gimmick, I see easily why people buy into it. The idea held by most people is that hip-hop is all about violence, drugs, money and women. People who don’t know what real hip-hop is and what the culture represents see it as something worthless, something less than an artform. They literally disregard it.
Our mission is to reclaim hip-hop. To make it relevant and real, something the people can relate to and understand on a visceral level outside of blunts and bitches. This isn’t about commercial success, it’s about art and expression. That’s what hip-hop is all about.
Thanks again,
Peace to all of our supporters; True hip-hop in 2010.

This is the blog for Tyler Hakes, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of aboveGround. I'll just use this for my general musings related to music, hip-hop, life and this site. I'll try to keep everyone up to date on what we're working on and how things are going. Feel free to leave comments with any questions or suggestions you have for us.
