During a performance at Ricochet Lounge in Miami, Florida for Art Basel Miami 2011, Nas painted a picture on stage. The first-ever-sold piece of art from Nasty Nas was then auctioned off to the crowd, garnering a winning bid of $14,000 for charity.

The work — which depicts a man smoking what appears to be a joint — was auctioned off the raise money for children with cancer, according to Nas’ comments in video footage from the event. But, no specific charity was mentioned.

Last night, at the 54th annual Grammy nominations ceremony, it was revealed that Michael Rapaport’s documentary, “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest” received a nomination in the film category, for Best Long Form Music Video.

The film followed the New York rap group from their early days, beginning to make music in high school, all the way up until the eventual disbandment of the group near the turn of the century.

Debate surrounded the film, as it moved from filming to production, and finally received a slow, city-by-city theatrical release and DVD / Blu-Ray pressing.

Although the award nomination may be a bit misdirected — the film wasn’t, to most, really a “music video per say, but more just a music-fueled documentary — the film still stands a chance at snagging the highly-coveted award.

The film is in the running against documentary-style offerings from TV On The Radio, Beyoncé, Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon.

The 54th annual Grammy’s will be broadcast on February 12.

The artist behind DOOM’s Mm.. Food album has teamed up with Stones Throw to make the iconic image available in a limited-edition, signed print. Only 100 of these 14.75″ x 12.75″, cotton-printed pieces will be available, with each one being hand numbered and signed by Jason Jagel.

Although it seems odd that it’s taken him this long, former Rage Against The Machine frontman Zach De La Rocha spoke up this week on the Occupy Wall Street movement that’s now spread into a global Occupy movement, penning a poem in support of the cause.

“This poem is dedicated to the Occupy movement whose courage is changing the world. Stay Strong. We are winning,” said De La Rocha in a statement released this week.

His support comes when the movement needs it most, it seems, just days after New York mayor, Michael Bloomberg, and the NYPD forcibly evicted protesters that were camping in their Zuccoti Park headquarters. The show of force, and the proceeding announcement that protesters would not be allowed to return to the park (which has since been overturned by a New York judge) seemed to mark a turning point for the movement that has been protesting against corporate greed and income inequality for the last two months as of November 17.

The protest carries on, however, and by many reports has actually gained momentum following what many consider to be an underhanded attempt by Mayor Bloomberg to squelch the movement and silence dissenters.

Promoting his upcoming gallery show in Hamburg, Germany, Detroit-by-way-of-LA street artist Revok takes us behind the scenes for the inspiration and creation of some of his new work. The upcoming gallery, dubbed Triumph & Tragedy, draws inspiration from the crippled state of once-thriving Detroit.

Diving into dilapidated buildings and abandoned homes, Revok pulls pieces from around the city to incorporate into his work.

Revok’s Triumph & Tragedy is set to take place on December 3 in Hamburg’s Vicious Gallery.

The folks over at SLAP Skateboard Magazine put together this footage of some hardcore skating around the NYC subway station. Despite numerous rules prohibiting this sort of activity, the guys make it look easy, flipping tricks and busting grinds both in and out of the trains themselves.

New art released from behind the scenes of the game that will tie into the Spider-Man movie reboot next Summer. With the release of “The Amazing Spider-Man” on July 3 in 2012, the game baring the same name is expected to be released around the same time.

Famed photographer KC Ortiz teams up with venerable clothing brand, Lifted Research Group, to capture a collection of stunning photos from Puerto graffiti artists Vizie, Steel and Omens, of Mad Society Kings and Villains crew infamy, laying down paint in the La Perla section of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“Los Salvajes” (The Wild Ones) is a compilation of photos from the trip, being released in a limited-edition 50-book run. Each copy will be hand signed by Ortiz. Cop at the LRG online store. [Price: $39.95]

Check out images from this freshly-laid work from artist EL MAC. Not only did he get a nice big canvas to work on, but the piece was actually put up on the outside of a factory belonging to Montana — a popular paint company among street artists. This piece lives in Barcelona, Spain.

The first look at the newest GTA game is here. Fans rejoice as the fifth official (over tenth, in total) installment in the main series is shown off in all its glory. The game takes players back to the famed San Andreas (a fictionional city based on San Francisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles) and boasts what looks to be a host of new features and in-game mechanics.

Rockstar North, the house responsible for the franchise has yet to set a release date for their newest title. Check out the full trailer up above.
