The First 5 with Moth1ne

moth2

Moth1ne is an up-and-coming artist out of Everett, a city located in Snohomish County just outside of Seattle, Washington. Since the 8th grade he has been steadily working on music. Moth1ne started out in rock/hardcore bands (which you can pick up on in the background of the chorus of track 5, “Dead Friends”) and eventually ending up in a genre that he knows and loves… Hip-hop. The summer of 2005 marked the beginning of Grand Marquee, a group formed with other local hip-hop artists. A couple years later they created a crew called Vile Funk Music and have been working on projects under that name since.

Moth1ne’s first official project, The Sleep is currently available on CDBaby and is scheduled to be released on iTunes soon. In the meantime, check out his answers to our First 5.

Moth1ne – You Almost Know Her

1. Tell us something nobody knows about you?

It’s hard to think of something no one knows about me. I tell people everything. I guess that when I was a little kid I was deathly afraid of the wind howling through our chimney. Haha.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

I want people to take whatever it is they take from my music. I tend to write a lot of sad stories. Some true, some not. If someone can connect with me through those stories than I feel I’ve done a good job. I like when the listener and I are on the same page in life.

3. What is one of your biggest regrets?

I have few regrets knowing that I’m glad where I’m at right now. I guess I feel like I could have taken this music a little more seriously a few years earlier. The earlier you start the better. I probably would have taken more advantage of the networking I had in high school.

4. What is your greatest memory in hip-hop?

One of my greatest hip-hop memories was one night I was scheduled to play a show at this venue called the Vortex in Mukilteo, WA. It got snowed out basically, like 2 feet or something. They said we could still play, so we did, not expecting anyone to show. Then one dude showed up. He drove through the treacherous snow storm to be there that night, as did a few others after him. That’s a true fan and a fond memory.

5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I see myself being 27. Actually I hope to have gained more of a reputation in my home town of Seattle and start touring the U.S. Maybe have some more radio play via mainstream and college stations. I’d also like to have at least 2 more albums under my belt. I would like to be picked up by a label or create my own, whichever comes first.
