The First 5 with Hollywood Floss

This week’s First 5 will provide some insight into the life of Hollywood Floss, an up-and-coming lyricist/beatsmith based out of Texas in the Space City of Houston. About two months ago he was involved in a unique project in collaboration with two blogs, HailMegatron and TheHipHopEffect. The premise? Each blog selects a number of tracks that stand out from an amount provided by Hollywood Floss. Each track gets re-named by the blogs according to the vibe they get while listening. The album cover gets split in half and voila, you have an original piece of work. There are two editions available coinciding with each blog’s selections that you can check out below. The undertaking was titled The Xperiment Vol.1 and that’s exactly what this effort was, an experiment. Take a look at his answers to our First 5 and download his free releases through the links provided!

1. Tell us something no one knows about you.

Haha really?! Alright, I once pretended to like the Spice Girls to try to get a girl in my drama class. It was 8th grade and I guess hormones will do that to you. She was always singing they hit “Wannabe” and had the stickers on her binder, etc. So I took it among myself to act like I knew all about them and I messed up on their names and she was turned off by it. She knew I was faking then, but I did like their song “2 Become 1”, that was dope haha.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Hopefully they get to understand me through my music. Listen to a song, upbeat or emotional, and try to understand what I was going through and relate. Honestly, I only make music for myself and if you like it, that’s a bonus. So when you do listen, you should take away an understanding of me at that time.

3. What is one of your biggest regrets?

Man! I regret not staying in piano class when I was a kid. I produce every now and again with samples mostly, but I want to get my original composition game up. I might start an original piece and then 15 minutes in, I’m like this is wack and then I’m off trying to find a nice sample to chop haha! So props to those original composers out there.

4. What’s one of your greatest hip-hop memories?

First time seeing the “Nuthin’ But A G Thang” video on MTV! I was familiar with hip-hop, etc; but it was always an underground movement or only liked by one crowd. But when that video and song came out, that was the first time I remember everyone talking about the video at school agreeing it was gangsta.

5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself touring the UK and various festivals around the world. I’m a big fan of touring and seeing the world, so I want to see that come to fruition. Being a full-time artist is where I want to be!
