The First 5: Seezmics

It’s been a big year for the Educated Consumers’ lyricist, Seezmics. First was the release of the well-received The Waiting Room EP, which was followed by Dezmatic’s “Bigfoot’s Dick Tour” that hit eight different venues. Next was the drop of, Hello Big Mama that created cause for the 10-date “Hello Big Mama Tour” with Cubbiebear, Dezmatic and Prolyphic. This tour became a segway to record the track “Fake Limps” with Cubbiebear, Prolyphic and DJ Addikt.
Seezmics is also an unusually busy man. In addition to the hectic schedule noted in the previous paragraph, a solo project titled, Broken Clock: Skeleton Key is also rumored to be in the works. Furthermore, he is part of the Subterranean All-Starz and The Food Chain Collective, as well as a contributor to Old School Vendetta and 1st Name Basis. To have someone with an agenda like that answer five questions may seem inconceivable, but aboveGround has accomplished the impossible.
1. Tupac or Biggie?
Biggie for rap music and Tupac as a cultural icon. Biggie embodied rap music from his era, but Tupac’s entire personality was a force of nature.
2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Still making remarkably good music, out of debt, barely able to play pickup hoops because of a bad back, fighting the cultural urge to get married with the human urge to hump every leg, and eating more leafy greens.
3. 5 Years ago, where did you see yourself today?
Answering these questions! “Foresight” is my middle name. Actually, it’s Veazey.
4. What do you want people to take away from your music?
I want you beautiful people to be impressed by how technically solid and creatively malleable I can be. I want you beautiful people to find an honest and unique perspective on all things related to life. Finally, I want all the ugly people to find comfort in knowing you have a spokesman who cares.
5. What has been your most memorable moment in hip-hop?
I had won a battle in DC by beating a field of “swaggalicious” MCs. I’m not a fan of the “you’ll know I’m dope because I’ll say so every 4 seconds” brand of rappers, but some of these cats were actually very dope. So I get outside and there’s 5 of them who want to street battle while the beats play from their car. I was a little shook being that I had rolled solo, but I took the challenge and battled all of them to a standstill. At the end, we all dapped each other up and there was a mutual respect established that I would have never anticipated. I still run into some of them to this day, and it reminds me of what Hip-Hop is truly about: no matter who you are or where you’re from, you’ll get and give respect as long as you respect yourself.
