The First Five with YC The Cynic
YC is a young, inspiring MC, who turns just 19 this week. Check out the official bio and some info on the man doing this thing:
It’s not often you come across a young, budding artist who’s thoroughly committed to the art. Since the business is so competitive, many quit before they begin to see results. You don’t have to worry about that with YC the Cynic. Coming from Hunts Point, in the South Bronx, YC feels the need to bring more of the Hip-Hop scene back to its birthplace. He intends to do just that, while bettering his community as part of the Rebel Diaz Arts Collective. Lyrically, you don’t hear many people that put in as much effort. He has been rhyming before he hit double digits in age. He has already developed a polished delivery, equipped with an unusually large vocabulary, an infectious energy, and a refreshing obsession with detail that makes for entertaining shows, songs, and ciphers. In under a year, YC has performed all over New York City, proving himself to Hip-Hop enthusiasts and pessimists alike. He is determined to be widely considered one of the best emcees ever to grace a microphone, and even though he has a long way to go, YC the Cynic knows the joy is in the journey.
1. Tell us something no one knows about you?
Hmmm, a little known fact. I played Tony in an elementary school rendition of Westside Story. So, yes, I’m multi-talented lol.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
After people hear my music, I just want them to be happy. I want them to be amazed and entertained. I want it to get to the point where you’re disgusted when something wack comes on.
3. What is one of your biggest regrets?
I don’t really have any regrets, because you can learn from every decision and every experience. But one of the things that I’ve learned is to do as much as you can on your own. No one will promote you like you.
4. What’s one of your greatest hip-hop memories?
My greatest Hip-Hop related memory is seeing Slick Rick perform at East River Park. The charisma was there. The songs were dope, of course. He even had a diamond eye patch…a diamond eye patch! C’mon Son.
5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I’ll be 24 years old, and still making music. I hope I’m still improving then. I’m sure I’ll have a larger audience to entertain. And if it all works out, I’ll be in a couple Top 5 lists.
