The First 5 with DJ Addikt

DJ Addikt is a Disc Jockey/Producer based out of Baltimore, Maryland. Although influenced by Hip-Hop music for the past 15+ years, he credits his style to music he was exposed to during his upbringing such as Motown, Jazz, Classical and 60′s/70′s Rock. Check out his answers to our First 5.

1. Tell us something nobody knows about you?
I’m a very honest person, so I’m not sure there’s anything that somebody wouldn’t already know about me. On that note, I’ll give you two things that aren’t as widely known:
- I’m adopted.
- I was a B-Boy before I was DJ.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
When I’m developing sounds and effects to compliment or enhance a composition, I try to create something that may be new to myself or other people. I hope that listeners can find inspiration and creativity in what I do and reshape it to use for their own purposes, musically-related or not.
3. What is one of your biggest regrets?
I try not to think that I have any regrets because if I did not make any of the decisions I have previously, I would not be where I am today.
If I need to have at least one regret then I regret that I don’t have my own theme song.
4. What is your greatest memory in hip-hop?
Besides Randy Savage putting out his own rap album, it would have to be when I opened for DJ Q-Bert with my good chum StretchOne. Before the show, Stretch and I were practicing and Q-Bert eventually joined us on stage for his own warm-up. As I was trying out some things, Q-Bert eventually inquired about one particular cut I was doing and gave sincere, positive feedback. After that, we had a real dope jam session with Q-Bert doing some drumming while Stretch and I laid cuts over top. That is, without question, one of the greatest memories I have with hip-hop.
5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
By that time, I’d like to have built myself a stable foundation of production knowledge and rapport with a plethora of musicians, not just limited to hip-hop. Continuing to progress and network with others that are diverse will always be a long-term goal.
I also plan to still be in touch with many of the talented artists I currently work with. I’m positive the people that I surround myself with, musically, will be a successful and contributing artist in the audio world for many years to come.
