Apple Sells 1,000,000 iPads
Apple’s iPad has gone platinum.
It’s just about impossible to mention portable electronics without Apple coming to mind. Undisputed champion of the mp3 player and a top contender in the smartphone market, Steve Jobs and company have introduced the tablet to the masses and the grand entrance has been nothing short of amazing. January 2010, Apple held an event in San Francisco, California to show the world exactly what this new form of portable computing was with the moniker of iPad.
In all reality, the tablet is not a new device, but until now it has hardly reached the attention that the iPad has. In fact, 28 says after its April 3rd release Apple has triumphantly sold 1,000,000 units. To put into perspective, the original iPhone sold just as many in 74 days. You can have whatever opinions you want about Apple, but this caliber of achievement is undeniable.
This is just the tip of the iceberg for how spectacular this device has performed in such a short amount of time. In addition to the boat load of iPads, go ahead and tack on over 1.5 million ebook downloads and 12 million app downloads. Sure there isn’t much competition at the moment, but that doesn’t take away from the power of these numbers one bit. With a growing library of ebooks and superb third party app support, you can read a novel, stream Netflix, or enjoy Marvel comic books without lugging a laptop or squinting at a smartphone.
Just thinking about how many iPads have been sold, not to mention the fact that the 3g versions were just released last week, is enough to make any company prepping to jump into the tablet world taking a long second look about how they are even going to try to catch up to this huge head start.
Tablets are expected to come out of just about every major computer manufacturer in the near future, but for now, it cannot be denied that Apple is the king of the hill.
