The Top 20 Albums of (the First Half of) 2010
The first decade of the 21st century has come and gone. We’re past the point of no return and well on our way to 2011. With that, we’d like to take some time to reflect on some undoubtedly classic releases that have popped up so far in the year. Amidst the greatest oil spill in world history, history has been made elsewhere — on wax. Here are our best picks of the year, as decided by our review editor.
First up, #20-11, these may be considered “honorable mentions” to some, but we thought they were just too good to leave un-ranked.
20. Black Sheep – From The Black Pool Of Genius
19. Sadat X – Wild Cowboys II
18. A.G. – Everything’s Berri
17. LMNO & Kev Brown – Selective Hearing
16. Murs & 9th Wonder – Fornever
15. Diabolic – Liar And A Thief
14. Everliven Sound – Freedom 2
13. The Strangerz – 2nd To None
12. Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx – The eXXecution
11. Guilty Simpson & Madlib – OJ Simpson

Great list, but I gotta say: I really, really, really, really despite it when websites spread out a top 10 list into multiple pages. I already clicked on this to read it. I just want to READ IT. You know? You know.

Homeboy Sandman at 5? Really? Homeboy Sandman is an atrociously mediocre rapper and he’s on a best of list? Must be a weak start to the new decade.

I like the list but I’m not sure whats up with At Last above How I Got Over, seems like a crime considering how great that album is. I love that homeboy sandman had a spot in the top 5 though. He is such an inventive emcee and The Good Sun is a classic album without a doubt.

JR and LP is easily ten times better than the rest of your list, and most of your list is borderline not-even-HipHop… like at least 60% Rap, 40% HipHop in artistic merit …
July 29th, 2010 at 5:42 pm
… only two good albums I heard so far is the JR&LP album and Dr.oops Grateful Dred … both future classic albums …
