Out This Week: Apollo Brown & Hassaan Mackey, Jay Rock, Black Rob, Headnodic
This week a number of notable collaborations, as well as some new music and the return of Black Rob.
Apollo Brown & Hassaan Mackey – Daily Bread
As is the norm for Apollo Brown projects these days, this highly-anticipated collaboration with Hassaan Mackey proves to be a safe-haven for sample-driven boom bap instrumentals. Hassaan Mackey plays nicely with his honest, sincere and technically-precise rapping ability.
Jay Rock – Follow Me Home
Signed to Tech N9ne’s Strange Music imprint, Jay Rock’s debut is reminiscent of the 90s era hip hop agenda. With gripping tales of venerable street life and some over-the-top violence glorification and gun play, it’s unlikely that this album will appeal to everyone. Fortunately, Jay Rock’s rapping ability does make the album entertaining for those that enjoy his flavor of hip hop.
Black Rob – Game Tested, Streets Approved
After recently being released from prison, the former Bad Boy Records artist teams up with Duck Down to release his newest effort, Game Tested, Streets Approved. As the record’s title implies, the new album picks up where Black Rob left off, telling tales of his Harlem upbringing.
Headnodic – Red Line Radio
Crown City Rocker and Mighty Underdog producer, Headnodic, releases his first full-length rap album accompanied by many of his underground hip hop brethren. Calling on the likes of Lateef the Truth Speaker, Moe Pope, Lyrics Born, Sadat X, The Grouch, One Be Lo and many others, Red Line Radio is poised to mark Headnodic’s most triumphant work to date.
