Grind for Life Event to Kick Off in Florida
The Grind for Life tour, a series of events designed to raise money via skateboarding to help fight cancer, will kick off this Saturday, February 27 in Rockledge, Florida.
The event was founded in 2003 by Mike Rogers, a lifelong skater who suffered through two separate bouts with cancer — the second one leaving him with only one eye. Each year the series of events across Florida look to raise money which can be used to assist families dealing with the expensive procedures and living arrangements that arise from a loved one developing cancer.
Saturday’s event in Rockledge is one of four scheduled for the year. The Street Contest at Eastwood Skatepark will test skater’s flatland and very abilities. The event will be i nthe form of a contest — $20 entry fee with prizes for top 5 in various brackets based on age and experience.
The other events to follow include: the “flow” contest at Naples Skatepark in June and the bowl contest and award ceremony/benefit both hosted at the Jupiter skatepark in April and November respectively.
If you can’t make it to the event, they’ve got some swag for purchase an also accept donations from their website.
