Gang Starr’s Guru In a Coma

Gang Starr’s founding MC, Guru, has suffered from cardiac arrest and is now in a coma in a New York hospital, sources said yesterday. Many people close to Guru, including DJ Premier, the other half of the founding hip-hop group, have confirmed these happenings.

“Guru IS in a coma and will go under surgery tomorrow,” he explained on DJ Eclipse’s Sirius satellite radio show last night, according to Hip Hop Wired.

The legendary artist has largely been out of the public space since Gang Starr’s public split in 2004. The duo parted ways due largely to creative differences, according to reports.

Guru’s latest solo work was released in 2009, his album Guru 8.0: Lost and Found, which was entirely produced by Solar.

The aboveGround staff sends our thoughts and prayers to Guru and the Elam family.

UPDATE (MARCH 3RD) – A statement released to AllHipHop.com confirmed that Guru has waken from his coma.
