Content Under Pressure #2

The second installment of Content Under Pressure will be taking place tomorrow, July 9, beginning at 6 p.m. with performances kicking off three hours later, at 9 p.m.

The event is going to be getting a new setting, placing the artists in the Fifth Element store, 2411 Hennepin Ave, to collaborate rather than the studios provided in the first installment. Onlookers will be given the opportunity to witness the work happening in real time, each pairing will be given three hours to complete an entire song, from start to finish, and perform it live for the crowd.
Artists for this event are:

1)PRODUCERS: GMO, Mike Swoop, Cory Grindberg, Baby Gracious & Cayriss
2)MC’S: Ibe, Yakub, Chantz, Prizm, & Truth Be Told

Each is an artist from the Twin Cities area, given a chance to display their skills in a highly pressurized setting, allowed to test their abilities and get their name out to the public. The event will be hosted by Toki Wright and sponsored by Big Quarter’s monthly producer-showcasing event titled Last of the Record Buyers, along with the Red Bull Music Academy.

-The Event: On the day of the event the artists will be randomly put together and be given 3 hours to prepare a song to perform that same night. Artists will be set up at various tables in 5th Element and prepare their song with mobile production units and headphones. Customers/Fans will be able watch the whole process while shopping or just hanging out. It will also be streamed live on the internet. Producers can make a beat on the spot or bring a variety of beats for the MC to choose from, but should be able to “arrange” the track specifically for the event regardless. MCs can do a pre-written song (must be an unreleased song) or write on the spot but they can NOT freestyle.

The point, according Content’s MySpace page, is to teach the artists how to work under pressure, and prepare them for collaborative efforts that may arise with limited time frames. Also according to the site, there will be a “surprise” pairing between two additional Minneapolis artists, who remain unnamed.

In addition, it has also been announced that Content Under Pressure will become a regular part of the monthly Last of the Record Buyers event, pairing one MC and one producer at each event, held on the third Thursday of each month at the Fifth Element store.
