Black Thought to Release Solo EP, Mixtape

The legendary Roots crew frontman, Black Thought, is gearing up to tackle two other project. He recently unveiled that he will be completing a solo EP, which has yet to receive a release date, and a group mixtape with his side project, Money Making Jam Boys, which will be dropping in early February.The Roots front man is finally stepping out from in-front of his legendary band to release music as a solo artist.

Black Thought of The Roots fame recently unveiled in an interview with the New York Post that he’ll soon be releasing his first solo record. In addition, Black Thought’s recent side-project is gearing up to release a mixtape in early February.

Fans of The Roots have consistently asked Black Thought when he would release a solo album without the rest of the band. And, those requests were largely met with statements about how every Roots album was essentially a solo piece for him, implying that ‘Thought had no intentions on attempting to strike a name for himself as an artist outside of the Philadelphia group. That is, until now.

“The solo joint is in the works right now,” the MC told the Post. “I’m putting together an EP for Def Jam, it’s probably going to be called The Talented Mr. Trotter. ”

Although he didn’t elaborate, Black Thought did say that he’ll be reaching outside of the core group of contributors that are present on The Roots’ projects for his solo material.

In the same interview, Black Thought offered some details on a side project that he’s been working on with frequent Roots collaborators, Dice Raw, Truck North, STS, and P.O.R.N. Money Making Jam Boys, the name of their collective, is working to release a mixtape titled The Prestige: Jam Boy Magic which will be sponsored by clothing line 10.DEEP and mixed by Mick Boogie and Terry Urban.

Jam Boy Magic is slated for release on February 3. A release date has not been announced for Black Thought’s solo EP.
