Donwill and Von Pea Confirm Next Tanya Morgan Album Will Be Done as a Duo
Donwill and Von Pea recently revealed that Tanya Morgan will be moving forward with their next album as a duo.
In an interview with the LA Times Pop & Hiss blog, Donwill and Von Pea of Tanya Morgan discussed their last record, their recent solo efforts, and the decision to create the next Tanya Morgan album as a duo rather than a trio.
“Ilyas still lives in Cincy, and myself and Don now live in new York. We’d have to do shows and appearances and record without him,” explained Von Pea. “It led to us doing a lot as a duo, and all three of us, not just the two of us, made the decision that he’d sit this album out.”
The two have been performing a string of dates with Rapper Big Pooh of the another Okayplayer-formed group, Little Brother along with other artists. Although Ilyas was absent from these dates, it was unclear that the trio had made a decision to split — for the time being — until this interview.
But, the split may well not be permanent, explained ‘Pea. “There’s a good chance he’ll come back for the next [Tanya Morgan album] though.”
Pea clarified on Twitter that Ilyas will be included in one or two tracks on the album, but the majority of the effort will consist of himself and Donwill as a duo.
The two explained in their interview with the LA Times that they’re currently working on their newest effort as a duo. They’ve completed around 10 tracks and plan to put together 10-15 more before finalizing the record.
The currently-unnamed follow-up to 2009′s highly-regarded Brooklynati will mark the group’s fifth release. There is no tentative release date at this time.
