5 New Albums You Should Check Today [02/09/2010]
This is the very first installment in our newest series. Each week we’ll try to game you suckas on what retail albums are hitting and where you should shell out your cash. Keep it real and support the artists putting in work.
Check out the line-up for this Tuesday:
1. Georgia Anne Muldrow – Kings Ballad
Having already officially dropped back on the 5th, be sure to pick up Culver City, CA femcee/producer Geogia Anne Muldrow’s fifth album Kings Ballad, where the Jazzy and creative Muldrow teams with equally talented crooner/spitter Declaime AKA Dudley Perkins of Stones Throw fame.
2. Gil Scott-Heron – I’m New Here
Returning to his roots as an influential poet and one of the most highly regarded singers and songwriters of all time, the legendary Gil Scott-Heron releases I’m New Here for all of his fans that have waited the 15+ years to hear the latest reflections of the now 60 year-old balladist. The legendary musician has had a lasting impact on some of today’s most notable artists. HipHopDX enumerated some of the many ways his music continues to remain relevant in a recent editorial by Carla Aaron-Lopez.
3. The Whitfield Brother – Earthology
Production duo The Whitfield Brothers follow up their well received debut “In The Raw” with with a brand new effort Earthology, that takes a global Funk, Soul and Jazz outlook while sprinkling in some of underground Hip-Hop’s best in Percee P, Mr. Lif and MED as well as New York Street bands El Michels Affair and The Dap-Kings.
4. Kurupt – Down and Dirty
Un-earthing recordings from 2002 and 2003, Death Row releases 6 unreleased recordings for Kurupt’s latest album Down And Dirty, which also contains production from long revered L.A. producer Sir Jinx.
5. Canibus – Melatonin Magik
He certainly knows how to make a comeback; diving back into the public eye by continuing the nearly-decade old beef with Eminem. Releasing his first album in almost two years time, lyrical force Canibus returns to the scene with Melatonin Magik. Along for Bis’ independent and surely wordy ride this time out are fellow wordsmiths Blaq Poet, K-Solo and Copywrite.
