Talib Kweli to Pen Autobiographical Book, Talks Black Star Reunion
The BK MC speaks on his current projects, including a to-be-named book and the potential of a reunion with Mos Def.
Talib Kweli, just six months from the release of his newest album, recently spoke with AllHipHop.com to explain his current projects. Not only is Kweli currently working on new music, but he’s also penning a book, he told the website, also addressing the question of second Black Star album with Mos Def.
“I am still a relatively young person in the scheme of the world, so I don’t feel like I feel like I will stop learning by any [stretch] of the imagination,” Talib Kweli told AllHipHop, speaking of his in-the-works book, which currently remains untitled. “I’ve learned some things that I can impart that can be worth some thing to some people.”
He told the site that his book will be based partially on his own life experiences. He also plans to offer his own personal philosophies to readers.
Kweli announced prior to the January release of Gutter Rainbows, that he actually had two album that were in the works. The second release, Prisoner of Conscious, — an allusion to the title of a “conscious rapper” that he is often given — is still in the works, he told the site.
As for the reunion of Mos Def and Talib Kweli as Black Star, it appears as though fans may have to keep waiting. While, he said that the two have, “have done a lot of music together and a few songs that people haven’t heard,” he also said that there’s no album currently in the works.
“There’s no update,” the rapper explained, “there’s no album that we are working on.” He explained that Mos’s relationship with his music and ownership is one of the biggest factors behind the possible album’s delay, in spite of fervent cries from fans for a follow-up to their 1998, Talib Kweli and Mos Def are Black Star.
Fans can look forward to new music fairly soon, though. He’s currently planning to release Prisoner of Conscious digitally toward the end of the summer, although a release date hasn’t been confirmed. He’s also planning to re-release his album, Gutter Rainbows, physically, following shortly thereafter.
