Canibus Releases DJ Premier Diss Track
‘Bus blasts Premo over some recently-revealed beef.
Just a few days after DJPremierBlog.com and VladTV revealed footage of DJ Premier explaining that Canibus was one of the most-difficult artists he’s ever worked with, Mr. Can-I-Bus took matters into his own hands, releasing the diss track, “Tell The Truth”, about his experience working with Premo.
“Tell the truth,” the rapper says after dropping his first verse before explaining his side of the story. “I came up to the studio to discuss the track, how we was gonna do it. You told me you was getting 80 Gs per track from Christina Aguilera, did seven tracks, it was hype. It was all cheesin’ and smilin’. We was happy about it.”
But, things didn’t go smoothly, according to Canibus. “I came up to D&D [Studios] — dirty ass D&D — first day, you was a hour late,” he says on the track. “Second day, you was two hours late. Third day, you was three hours late. Fourth day, you was four hours late. Come on man, tell the truth.”
According to Premo, in his interview with VladTV, the two had a run in because Canibus passed up on a beat that he had made. The track, which was supposed to be used Canibus’ track, “Nigganometry”, was eventually used by D’Angelo for “Devil’s Pie”.
“‘You know, I just don’t think you understand my vision of what I’m trying to bring out,’” was Bus’ response after hearing the beat, according the Premier.
Although neither artist indicated exactly when the run-in occurred, Canibus did say that it was approximately 14 years ago.
The two artists collaborated recently, on Canibus’ 2010 album, C of Tranquility, for the track “Golden Terra of Rap”.
Of course, it’s still unclear whether Premier’s original story of Canubus’ retelling are entirely true. Listen and download Canibus’ diss track below. Watch the VladTV interview with DJ Premier below that.
