Barack Obama and The Roots ‘Slow Jam The News’ on Jimmy Fallon
Last night, President of the United States Barack Obama made a surprise guest appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night to perform alongside The Roots for their “Slow Jam The News” segment.
As Fallon’s house band, Questo and the crew provided a presidential soundscape for Obama to discuss a political issue regarding government-backed Stafford loans for college students.
Throughout Obama’s performance, Fallon offered quips and comments, and Black Thought punctuated each portion with comedic crooning.
The issue at hand was an upcoming change to the interest rates charged on Stafford loans. If left along, this interest rate would double, which, according to Obama, would cost students approximately $1,000 more to pay for their education. Obama called on members of Congress to act to stop this upcoming change, keeping interest rates at their currently low rates.
