Brooklyn Banks Closes to Skaters

Skate Trick at the Brooklyn BanksOne of Manhattan’s most well-known skate spots, the “Brooklyn Banks”, closed officially today while the area is revamped by the city.

Located next-to and under the Brooklyn Bridge, the Banks offered skaters numerous spots to show off their skills. Notably, the steep banks leading up to the bridge and a high 10-stair handrail made the spot a favorite among local boarders and pros from around the world.

The area will be closed down until sometime in 2014 for construction and painting, according to the official release from the Department of Transportation (via RadCollector).

After the initial announcement of the park’s closing, Mike Valley put together a documentary recounting the spots history and displaying footage of skaters enjoying the park throughout the years. “Mike V & The Brooklyn Banks” can be viewed below.
