Sage Francis Says He’s Done Touring

Sage Francis is a well-respected MC and battle rapper from Rhode Island. He is also the founder and CEO of Strange Famous Records, his own record label. He recently announced that he is retiring from touring, although he will continue to make music and do periodic shows. It seems this Rhode Island hip-hop stalwart is trading in the tour bus. Over the weekend, Sage Francis took to his Facebook page to announce that he will no longer be touring to promote his music.

“I just finished my very last show of my touring career,” wrote the 33-year-old MC. “No fireworks went off. No confetti dropped from the ceiling. There was no champagne involved. I did push someone with my foot off of the stage,” he explained.

The announcement came as a frustration to many fans — and, as a relief for a few who had recently had the chance to see him during his latest tour — and the announcement spawned over 150 comments on his page.

Many fans asked why Sage Francis was finished touring, and his answer was rather non-descriptive. “I suppose the best answer I can give is ‘because I said so’ which should be taken in a very authoritative tone,” he wrote, without any further explanation.

Sage fans shouldn’t fret, though, this isn’t the end for the rapper. He’s said that he’ll continue to make music, but just without touring.

“I’ll definitely keep making music and do other thangs. Staying involved. With beauty and style,” he wrote, appeasing many fans who feared it was his official resignation from hip hop. And, in fact, those who haven’t had a chance to catch a Sage Francis live show may still have a chance, as the MC clarified his decision. “I’m done touring. I’ll still do shows from time to time depending on the circumstance,” he wrote.

Sage Francis just wrapped up a European tour with label-mate B. Dolan, in promotion of his latest release, Li(f)e, which dropped in May of this year on Anti- and Strange Famous Records. Their last show was on Friday, October 23 in Wellington, New Zealand.
