One LA Beastie Boys fan has jumped at the chance to commerate the recent passing of MCA (Adam Yauch) of the famed group. With out-of-pocket money, Jason Mays commissioned Brooklyn-based Kaves and OBEY founder, Shepard Fairey, to use images from famed photographer Glen E Friedman and create artistic tributes to Yauch and the Beastie Boys.

The result: The two above billboards, which have taken up residence at multiple locations around So-Cal, commemorating the MC, and the group’s work. LA Weekly talked with Mays about the project, who doesn’t appear to have any motivation outside of simply remembering one of his favorite artists.

These works are currently flying high on Fairfax (Kaves’ black and white) and Sunset (Fairey’s red and black).
