A Tribe Called Quest Documentary Scheduled For DVD/Blu-ray Release in October
The ATCQ biopic gets a physical home release.
This week, MTV reported that the controversial and critically-acclaimed documentary, Beats, Rhymes, & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, is set to be released on DVD and Blu-ray formats this coming October.
The Michael Rapaport-directed film, which follows the group around and chronicles their story, raised many eyebrows as the group’s MC/producer, Q-Tip, spoke out against the film early in its life. Before the original screening at the Sun Dance Film Festival early in 2011, Q’ and Rapaport exchanged words about the film and it became clear that Q-Tip was unhappy with the way that the film depicted himself and the group.
Many speculated that Q-Tip’s aversion from the record stemmed from the internal conflicts that were shown throughout the film and how ‘Tip’s persona was conveyed to the audience in these scenes.
Since then, the waters seem to have calmed and the film has been released in theaters all across the United States to mostly-positive reviews from critics and fans alike. Now, it’s poised to jump to DVD and Blu-ray in time for Christmas season.
Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest is scheduled for physical retail release on October 18 through Sony Pictures Classics.
