Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Premiere New Black Star Track, ‘Fix Up’, on ‘The Colbert Report’
The venerable hip hop duo takes their act to prime time, garnering the Colbert bump for their two new singles.
Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) made an appearance on The Colbert Show last night, giving a brief interview and premiering two new tracks for the audience of Stephen Colbert’s late-night comedy show.
The artists performed “Astronomy (8th Sign)” from their 1998 collaborative album, as well as premiering a brand new track, “Fix Up”, presumably from what will amount to a sophomore Black Star record. The new track appears to be produced by Stones Throw beat-maker, Madlib.
Neither of the artists addressed the possibility of a new album on the show. To this point, they have revealed that there has been some work done on the album but dismissed rumors that a new album was on the way.
This performance comes just a few weeks after Mos Def announced that he would be retiring his well-known moniker, instead going by Yasiin Bey, or simply Yasiin.
