Immortal Technique Talks About ‘The Middle Passage’ Album
Immortal Tech reveals progress on his long-awaited new LP.
Just days after releasing his free album, The Martyr, Immortal Technique spoke to Conspiracy Worldwide Radio, updating fans on his album, Middle Passage, that has been in the works for more than five years.
“[It’s about] halfway done,” Tech revealed in the interview. “We just have a few really, really incredible guest spots that we’re right now finishing up consolidating. And then hopefully we’ll be able to be on point for a release early next year.”
Fans will be pleased to know that the wait has not been in vain. Despite releasing his free project just last week, the Harlem rapper is planning a release for sometime in early 2012. After recording over 70 tracks for his newest works, Tech said that him and Southpaw — who will man the boards the LP’s entirety — are now finally on the last half of the album.
Last week, when Immortal Technique dropped his latest album, The Martyr, for free through Viper Records, the response was astounding. The record garnered over 200,000 downloads on the first day it was available, the politically-charged MC explained in the interview. Not only did the traffic bring down Viper Records’ webpage, but it also managed to cause traffic issues for Mediafire — the third-party site that hosted the album’s zip file.
“The Martyr is more a reference to what has to die within the individual for someone to be reborn,” Immortal Technique said, explaining the origins of the free release’s title. “The eternal struggle of someone that is fighting with the aspect of themselves: the ego, the sanity, selfishness, and sometimes those things that aren’t selfish but that you want in life. Like revolutionaries don’t really tend to live very long. They tend to not be the best fathers sometimes because they’re so concerned with the world’s problems those that are right under their nose sometimes go neglected.”
