Doomtree’s Dessa Announces Remix Project, ‘Castor, The Twin’
The songstress and MC reveals details from her forthcoming new project.
Today, Dessa from Minneapolis’ rising Doomtree collective took made a special Tuesday blog post to announce details about her upcoming new project, Castor, The Twin, which she’ll be releasing in October, she wrote.
Dessa, explaining the origins of the project’s title, explained, “The album title references the twin brothers Castor and Pollux of Roman mythology (the pair of bright stars in the Gemini constellation). Pollux was part god, a fighter with metal hands. Castor was the mortal of the pair, but the two were inseparable.” She continued, “I was drawn to Castor and Pollux because I liked the idea that each song on the album was the human twin of the more aggressive compositions that had been released on other projects.”
The project, she revealed, is comprised of 11 tracks. Ten of the them are “ambitious” rearrangements of existing tracks, and the final one a record taken from her next full-length effort. All of the new tracks are recorded with live instrumentation, she explained.
She also provided fans a sneak-peak at the project, offering a change to stream the re-imagined track, “Palace”, from Paper Tiger’s 2010 record Made Like Us.
Castor, The Twin is due out on October 4, she wrote, and a record release party is currently slated for October 28.
Pre-order information for the album has yet to be made available. But, Dessa did indicate that the album will cost $10.
