Talib Kweli: New Black Star Album Coming in 2012

Talib Kweli: New Black Star Album Coming in 2012Kwe says him and Mos are cooking up a new record from their hugely-acclaimed duo.

Talib Kweli, in an interview with MTV published today, revealed some scant details about a forthcoming new project from himself and Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def). Sometime in 2012, he said, the two will be releasing a new Black Star album.

“I am working to put out a Black Star project for people to buy sometime next year,” Talib Kweli said, dropping the bomb that fans have been waiting to hear for some time.

He continued, explaining the process. “Me and Mos are focused on independence and quality of sound. We’re really into a Madlib/Dilla thing right now,” he said. “Anything you hear from us is probably going to be that type of sound.”

“And it’s about independence, so we are trying to find out the right mediums to get the songs out,” he said, stressing the role of independence in the project.

Kweli, who has recently shied away from the term “underground rapper”, explained that the premiere of the track “Fix Up”, which the duo played on The Colbert Report last month, was an un-mixed version of the song. They have since entered the mixing stage for that particular track.

“We are just trying to figure out the best way to release them, whether it’s going to be one by one, EP or album,” the Brooklyn rapper explained.

Although he didn’t give definite dates as to when in 2012 the album may actually be released, this is the first solid time frame that either of the MCs have offered since fans have demanded a second helping after 1998’s Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star.

Stay tuned for more details on the record and they become available.
