Senor Kaos – The Spirit Of Jax & The Maschines ft Homeboy Sandman & Buff 1

“The Spirit Of Jax”:

“I came up with the idea for the Spirit Of Jax around the beginning of 2009. I wanted to do a record to pay homage to Jax, but at the same time didn’t want it to be a sad record. I wanted it to be a track that celebrated the man on the mic as the phenomenal emcee I knew him as.

As soon as producer Illastrate played me this beat, I knew that was going to be it. After I laid all the vocals, DJ Dainja came in and killed it on the cuts to complete the song. Jax was a true work-a-holic. And that’s why today we celebrate the Pace Of The Dedicated.”

From Senor Kaos:

So during the 2010 A3C Hip Hop Festival in ATL, you may have saw me tweeting about a record I was working on with Homeboy Sandman and Buff 1 that was produced by D.R.U.G.S.! Well… here it is. But before you just go downloading, let me let ya’ll know how this came about…

So during the 2009 A3C Festival, AJ, Jay Force and crew began working on the 10 Year Anniversary of the Beats and Lyrics Radio Show (Hosted By Jay Force). AJ decided to open his home studio during A3C weekend to a select few emcees they wanted to be involved with the project. Luckily I was chosen as part of that pack along with J-Live, El Da Sensei, 4-Ize, Fresh Daily, etc. They had producers submit tracks, emcees would come thru, write joints on the spot and BOOM! I ended up in the lab with Fresh Daily at 5am (Pause) on the last night of the festival and we recorded what would later become “You Couldn’t Relate” originally dubbed “Long Ass Intro” produced by Illastate. What does that have to do with this song Kaos? Well I’m glad you asked, keep reading…

This time around, AJ, Jay Force, J Haze, Izreal, got Unique Squared involved and were able to set up a RV at the front of the festival entrance with a FULL recording studio on it. Once again they invited select emcees to come thru and be apart of the recording which would later end up on the “Beats And Lyrics To Go” Mixtape project.

During the weekend I bumped into the homie Buff 1 from Michigan, who’ve I’ve bumped into several times over the last few years and multiple cities. I’ve always respected dude as an emcee, enjoyed his music, and said one day we have to work on something together. When I saw him at the fest, I said “YO, they got this RV set up, plenty of beats, we need to record a joint before the end of the weekend.” Buff said cool, let’s do it. So we went by the RV, and listened to some beats outside. The demo was set up, to where you could listen to beats from a laptop but you couldn’t see who the producer was of the beat. So you just had to pick what you liked, versus picking something for the name. Which worked out GREAT for me. So I went thru maybe 20 beats, and ended up stuck on this one. I let Buff check it out, and he was like cool. So that was that, we agreed to meet back at the RV at 11pm to record the joint.

… a couple hours go by, I get a call from either J Haze or AJ (I forget). The caller says “YO, Homeboy Sandman just got the RV to listen to beats, and he REALLY wants that beat that you and Buff 1 picked.” So I said no problem, Boy Sand is fam, we’ve worked together on joints before it’s no biggy” and made my way back over to the RV to finalize details.

As I walk up an excited Sand is like “That Machines joint is CRAZY!!!!” I said “oh is that was the sample is saying?” Sand is like “Yeah, Machine, Machine, Machineeeeeee!” LOL

By now it’s about 10pm and we have to record this song at 11pm. Because of the amount of emcees trying to record songs, artists were only given roughly 30 mins to record the track from start to finish. I texted Buff, and told him Sandman was going to be an addition to the record. Me and Sand went to the car, played the beat CD and wrote our verses there. 10:58pm comes and we walk back over to the RV Studio.

It took us a lil over a half an hour to knock this song out. By 11:45 PM the record is complete.

After I received the beat I was made aware that D.R.U.G.S. was the producer of the track. Which was crazy, because just a week prior Drugs hit me on Facebook, with the idea that we had to work on something together, and I felt the same way.

Homeboy Sandman really took the concept to the next level. As Emcees we move as maschines thru the so called music industry machine MASHing up anything in our path, and exposing the real music and knowledge to the people!
