Shad, real name Shadrach Kabango, has been making some big waves throughout Canada as of late. His real-life lyrics and the engaging way he delivers them is now helping him create a name for himself in the States as well.
He was born in Kenya, but moved to London, Ontario, Canada (my hometown) with his parents when he was young. In 2005 he self-produced his debut album, “When This Is Over” with prize money from winning $17,500 through a local radio station’s Rhythm of the Future competition while attending university. In 2007 he released his second album, “The Old Prince” to critical acclaim on the label Black Box Recordings. A year later the album received a Juno nomination for Rap Recording of the Year and was also nominated for the prestigious 2008 Polaris Music Prize. With these acknowledgements he is sure to be a major player in the hip-hop scene’s future. This is not the last you will hear of Shad!
